A Win For Maintenance Tasks
Last year I had a goal listed under my Financial goals to get my budgeting software caught up and synced. This goal was very painful and took a lot of my time. I had not synced my transactions in my financial software in a few years.
The biggest issue is that I cannot download transaction history that is older than 6 months. Therefore, if I get behind and don’t sync my data, I have to manually add data into the software. This is exactly what I did, over the span of many days. I typed in every single transaction.
Once I was done, I knew I had to keep up it and created a task for myself to sync it weekly. I try my best to keep up with it knowing that if I let six months go by I will be giving myself a lot more work.
This brings me to my big win. My husband and I were looking at getting me new tires for my car. I really wanted to know when and where my last tire purchase was but I couldn’t find any paperwork on it (yes, that’s another issue of mine – to get my paperwork situation organized and under control. Le sigh)
I tried to do a search on my bank’s website but it was too far in the past to be in the search results. Then it hit me! I had my transactions synced in our financial software. Minutes later, I can completed the search and found exactly the transaction I was looking for.
Win! If I had not synced the data and kept up with the syncing, I would have had to dig through a giant pile of paperwork and may have never found it. Nice!
So the moral of the story is to keep up on those maintenance tasks! And now I’m off to sync up those transactions.
What maintenance tasks do you try to keep up on to keep your life easier?
