See ya, don’t wanna be ya, 2020

Apparently from my last post in February, I was back.  Or more like, baaaaack.  Was I though? No, it has been determined I was, in fact, not back.

It’s been. A. Year.

Just to catch up, a few weeks after my last post, lock downs hit due to COVID-19.  School became remote. Toilet paper was MIA.  We had lost power on a Saturday in March for a full 27 hours during below-freezing temperatures. After spending a night with all four of us sleeping in one bed, we went to my mom’s house to thaw out.  I saw several posts on social media about local people rushing to the stores to stock up on food while I sat feeling helpless because our fridge and freezer weren’t even working.

Once the power was back on, we had one full day until I received the email saying school was going remote for the foreseeable future.  Nothing has been the same since.

I spent March through June working from home while trying to limp our way through schooling from home with two kids. I had a huge work project go live in April and the weeks before I was working nights and weekends in preparation.  We had moments where all four of us were on conference calls.  Class Zoom meetings were conducted from the dog’s bed. Long walks and s’mores around the fire were our family “outings”.  We stayed safe and healthy, but it was a blur.

When July hit, we finally had a bit of a break. We took a small, socially-distance road trip to a cabin near a lake and enjoyed some outside time.  Many local places we love to camp were closed, but we did find a few new ones and made memories. It was a strange summer, but still fun and enjoyable.

School started up in-person in September.  They haven’t gone remote yet (crossing our fingers and toes on that one) and we have made it to Christmas break so I’m feeling great about that.

I’m still working from home alongside my hubby, which I’m sure he loves. We need a date. We need a break. But we keep on keepin’ on. We’ve been lucky and blessed in many ways.

And here we are, at one of my favorite times of year – New Years Eve.  I love a good refresh. I love some planning time.  I took the full week off between Christmas and New Years and that’s what I’ve been trying to do. Plan, relax, breathe, and think about what I want 2021 to bring.

We have power and toilet paper, so that’s a good start.
