“You gotta get organized, girl”

Ah, moms.  Always quick with the advice.  As a mother of two myself, I can relate to this desire to advise our kids every second I find.  I’m guiding them into adulthood, of course they will appreciate my advice when they are older!

Well, I’m older.  And I’m still getting the advice.  And I’m apparently not appreciating it.

I was sitting on a bleacher bench with my mom at my 7-year old son’s baseball game.  His 4 year old sister was playing…well, somewhere.  Probably in dirt.  Definitely in dirt.  My husband was the team coach, so he was busy herding the cats.  I had realized much too late that my son did not have his cleats, so he stood there ready to bat next with only tennis shoes.   As I sat there imagining his cleats sitting right next to the door in our mud room, waiting for us…and thinking about the “Grab the cleats” reminder in my phone that I had apparently ignored, I realized that his cleats were actually in my car because after his last game, we had needed to run an errand and he swapped his shoes.

YES!  Crisis averted!  I ran to my car, grabbed his cleats, helped him get them on, and sat back down feeling completely awesome.  That’s when my mom dropped her advice.  “You gotta get organized, girl”

Ugh.  So much for feeling fantastic about my cleat success.  However, I couldn’t say a word, because I knew she was right.

I do have to get organized.  I have two kids, a husband, a dog, I work full time out of the house as a software developer, and we just moved into our new home.  I had huge plans for this new home.  A fresh start, keep it extra clean, bare counters, no dirt.  We have been in it for almost 6 months and it already needs a declutter. Who am I kidding?  It needed a declutter BEFORE we moved in, but we didn’t find the time, due previously listed things (kids, dog, job, life, etc)

All this clutter talk, but has anyone see my point?  My point is this.  I need to find a way out of this mess. This blog is going to be what helps me stay accountable to getting there.  As a software developer, I like to find solid, repeatable solutions to problems.  Systems that will keep things running smoothly and effortlessly (HAHA, right).

Time to get organized, girl!
