For the last few years, I have struggled to find motivation to go after some of the goals I have had on my list. I have posted the inspirational quotes, read the books, followed the motivational influencers, and yet still, I have struggled to take action. I have described on here before my tendency to “plan” and never “do”. I was already feeling this low motivation before the pandemic, and all the overwhelm and stress that the last two years have brought has only made it worse.
One of my biggest goals I have made depressingly little progress on has been to completely declutter, organize, and decorate my home. We built our new home over four years ago and when we moved in, we ended up unpacking almost four years of boxes and stuff we had accumulated without every purging. We moved five times before we finally had our forever home, and during each of those moves, we packed up more boxes, ignored others, and just kept moving more and more along with us. Add in a storage unit that we ignored for two years, and we ended up moving into our home with a ton of unneeded stuff.
We spent the first year or so just getting used to our new home and trying to get a feel for what we might actually need. Then, the pandemic hit and it seemed like everything we wanted to order was back ordered and frankly, we had our minds on many other things than buying furniture and decluttering.
I am still frustrated with myself that I didn’t take advantage of those almost two years where we spent more time at home than usual and just declutter and purge everything. However, I try to give myself grace and recognize that I was just trying to survive, as we all were.
Now, I’m starting to come out of that fog and realize it’s actually time to get going on decluttering my life, but I’ve still struggled with motivation. However, this week I attended the Get Organized HQ Virtual Event and something has happened.
I attended this event last year and thought it was well put together but ran out of time to get the most out of it. This event is five days full of virtual sessions on organizing, time management, decluttering, meal planning, eating healthy, crafting and more. You have 24 hours to watch the videos for free before they expire, or you can purchase the all-access pass. This year I opted to watch them for free because I knew that the idea that they would expire would keep me motivated to watch instead of putting them off, and I’m so glad I did.
Watching these videos of people organizing and decluttering and giving a ton of tips has really breathed a new life into my plans for completely overhauling my home. I am hoping to keep this motivation going by following them on Instagram and YouTube. I took a ton of notes during the sessions and have learned so much! There was even a session on starting to run when you’re over 40. Such great info!
So here I am, at the start of another big push to get my shit together, and I’m really hoping this one sticks this time. I may use this blog to update on my progress, but most likely you can head over to my Instagram (@thehackermom) and see my progress there.
What project are you searching for some motivation to get done? I’d love to hear about it below!
