Get Up and Do It Now!
I actually decluttered a drawer.
No, hell is still hot and pigs stay on the ground. Yet somehow, in this dimension, I decluttered a drawer.
And not just any drawer, but a small drawer that was stuffed with way too many socks and underwear that was always overflowing and could never be fully closed that had been this way for years. Years I tell you!
How did it happen that after years of frustration with the drawer that just wouldn’t close, I finally found the 15 minutes that had eluded me for so long to actually purge some items and get it to fully close?
I was inspired.
For the second year, I signed up for the Get Organized HQ Virtual Event where every day for one week they have many, many speakers talk about organization, time management, decluttering, meal prep, crafting and many other topics. You can buy an all access pass and watch the videos even after the event has concluded. The other (free) option gives you access to the videos for 24 hours after they premier.
Last year I chose the free option but was not prepared an missed many of the videos.
This year, I was ready.
Although an amazing event and definitely worth the money (especially if you buy the pass early when it’s much cheaper), I knew if I purchased the pass and had all the time in the world to watch the videos, I just…wouldn’t.
So this time, I knew what videos were must-sees for me and which ones were not, and I knew what I needed to watch every night (and was ready with my note taking!)
I was watching one video where the speaker started talking about just cleaning out one drawer and actually showed her sock drawer that she had recently decluttered and it just hit me. Go!
I immediately pulled everything out of my drawer and started decluttering. I bet I spent less than 15 minutes deciding what would stay and what would go.
Then I put everything I wanted to keep back in the drawer the Marie-Kondo way and boom. Done. After years of stuffing, cramming, cussing, and just leaving the drawer open, I had a beautifully organized drawer.
And then what?
I did two more! It was amazing. And motivating.
There you go. That’s the post. I am still in awe every time I easily take something out of one of those three drawers and nothing else falls out on the ground. Or I can close the drawer after.
What have you been avoiding? What task would make a huge difference in your life but you just keep putting it off and dealing with the extra stress?
Go do it! Now! Don’t even finish this blog post, there’s not much left anyways.
And please come back and let me know in the comments what you tackled!
